Welcome to the North Pole Restaurant! We have been in business over 60 years. The restaurant actually started out in 1947 as a soda fountain in Village Drug on 21st Street in Newport at the present site of Tinucci's Restaurant. Customers were offered fountain service while they waited for their prescriptions to be filled. Robert E. North (Bob) purchased Village Drug in 1947 and eventually renamed it Newport Drug. In 1952, Newport Drug moved from the West side to the East side of Highway 61 and relocated in the newly constructed Newport Center which Bob and a partner, George Fisher of Fisher Foods built. In the late 1950's when the shopping center expanded, a larger, separate space was created for the North Pole Restaurant with access to Newport Drug. The business has expanded over the years to accommodate 86 patrons and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Newport Drug and the North Pole Restaurant are still owned by the North Family. Dave & Mary North are proud to be the 3rd generation business owners. Children, Tricia & Brian, are both involved with the operation of the restaurant and pharmacy. Tricia has a Dr. of Pharmacy degree and is a 4th generation pharmacist while Brian has a degree in business.
The North Pole remains a family-run business that provides great comfort food at a fair price.
